I am in the process of getting involved in digital B&W, and am beginning by trying to use the MIS standard ink set with the Epson 700. This is a six ink printer 8.5" width, and precursor to the 740, 870, 875 etc that are now available. My long range plan is to learn with this printer, then get an Epson 1160 or 1200 for future B&W work. I could use some guidance. First, if anyone knows of a workflow for this combination, I would appreciate learning about it. I have tried Paul Roark's workflows for the Epson 1200 and 1160, but neither seem to work quite right on the 700. I appreciate Pauls response to my previous messages. What I am doing now is using the Quadtone feature of Photohop 5.5, and creating my own curves. I set the colors to black, cyan, yellow and magenta in that order to lay down the darkest in first and the lightest last. I am setting the curves to try to generate a printed grey scale to match a known grey scale. My thought was that this would allow me to more directly control each of the inks in the printer. I am getting pretty close and the B&W images look quite good, and the grey scale isn't bad, but not yet perfect. My question is: are there any disadvantages to doing this with Quadtones as compared with placing the image in RGB and controling the these "colors" using curves, as apparently was done by Paul Roark?
