The problem is if you get a new 1400 and plug 3rd party inksets into it and the
machine is dead, Epson may claim the warranty is void. This would force the
consumer to eat the cost of a new printer + the cost of buying a new one. The
risk is reduced by knowing the 1400 will support selected 3rd party inksets.
Even if the printer dies a month after receiving, you tested it with the
supplied ink, the warranty is still void using 3rd party inks.
This is debatable but the point is, if using 3rd party inks does i fact void the
warranty and that is a major concern, you should not be using 3rd party ink in
your brand new printer.
On the opposite side of the coin, if you cut the chase and plug 3rd party ink
into a brand new printer, you remove the headache of flushing the OEM inks,
cleaning the heads, and then installing the desired inksets.
Matter of opinion and preference I suppose.

I've read from the journals that with a new 1400, one should insert the orig
cartriges to ensure that the mach is operating perfectly. Then, if you
satisfied, than load the carbon-6.
(I love my 1400)

Hi folks! Just to be sure before I make a mistake:
- Is it ok to load an out-of-the-box new 1400 with carbon-6 right away,
without ever running OEM inks ?
- Does the head-alignment procedure work well with carbon-6 (patterns
recognizable) ?
Thanks,
Louis
