Hi all, I've been printing now for a couple of months using the VM set on my 12_90 (not 80). I've been using Paul's curves for the 1280 and at most altering the magenta +/- up to 10%, thats it. I just read, and actually Nij mentioned it to me earlier that the 1280 is different to the 1290 and the curves may have problems. Can someone tell me how they are different and suggest what I might need to alter? I do get occasional posterisation in the darker tones on some prints and there is also a pretty big shift towards cold/warm in the mids that is pretty noticeable in step wedges. Having never seen anyone elses prints it's hard to know if the prints can be improved. I tried a sample pack of paper and much against popular wisdom on the list found that the Somerset Velvet Enhanced printed terribly (bad posterisation) and blocked up all the midtones. William Turner printed very well, as did Torchon & Photorag. I probably would have gone for Photorag as it seemed the most capable of broad tone reproduction, but I prefered the texture of the other two papers and they didn't seem to lag too far behind on tonal reproduction. I did head alignments for each paper btw. Any 1290 owners out there with modified curves they'd like to share? <G> :) Cheers, Neil - in MIS-less UK (hint hint!) _________________________________________________________________ Send and receive Hotmail on your mobile device: http://mobile.msn.com
