MIS UT7 for digital negatives?

2011-12-19 by ding

Hello, I have done a search in the groups archives and google looking for a DEFINITIVE answer for the above question. I've seen some conflicting replies from DPUG and elsewhere categorically saying MIS inks dont work for this purpose on one hand and another saying PKN does a good job at UV blocking.
I have an old Epson 2200 setup with UT7 inks that have done a wonderful job until three weeks ago when i ran out of inks. I also have another Epson, a 2880 loaded with original inks that i use primarily for color and digital negatives for my alternative process work (tricolor gum, cyanotypes, vandykes...) There nothing wrong with the 2200 (knock on wood) so im quite in a dilemmna whether to buy again a new set of MIS inks and use it also for diginegs. Im thinking it will save a lot of 'printcount' for the 2880 if i do this but am worried i may end up with inks i cant use plus the added pain of shipping cost since im in Europe. Frankly, i'd rather retire the old 2200 than have a redundant setup in BW again.
I would really appreciate it very much if there's someone out there who can share experience ib this setup
Merry Chritmas to all from Paris!
Rodrigo
