I have 5 4-oz bottles of the Claria-Noritsu dilution base I'll send to people who are interested in experimenting with it on an Epson 1400 and B&W dye printing. Contact me off list if interested in getting some of this dilution base. I'm using a setup that only requires a 10 cc syringe and other usual filling equipment for a 1400 (3 MIS carts, 10 cc syringe, bottom fill adapter, dull needle). I just mix a 1:2 dilution with a syringe (e.g., one syringe of black ink to 2 syringes of dilution-base) to make an "LK." Color and black inks can be stock Claria. My current setup uses Y, LM & K. I am using 2 LK positions and 2 black portions to make a quad with LM and Y as toners. For neutral, the LM is all that is needed. Other setups are also possible, I'm sure. I use Y for not only warm prints but to control the OBAs. The brochures I'm making have a toned-down paper border area that make the cooler sample images look like they are matted. The images are silver and the paper golden. The metallic paper is particularly good for these and cards. I've posted basic profiles for QTR and the Epson driver. I'll get around to completing the PDF soon, hopefully. See http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/1400-Claria-Noritsu-2K2LK.pdf It's a work in progress. My costs are about $12 for 4 oz. (116 ml) -- $5 for USPS small priority box (no time to deal with UPS or PO lines), and about the same amount of chemicals. (I think we can now make our own Photo Flo and Edwal LFN substitutes -- I've sourced their inputs.) This base is very easy to mix at one liter volumes. No scales are needed. This is to stimulate what I see as an under-utilized technology that has an important place in our digital darkrooms. I don't sell, but contributions (donate button) on my information web page -- http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/ -- will determine if this open market approach works. Paul www.PaulRoark.com
