1100 MIS LLK-(2)LK-PK sepia printer

2012-02-23 by Paul

Although I have not written a PDF for this inkset, it's another one I currently have running. Basically, I needed the best sepia prints I could make. The 1100 with MIS K4 PK, two LKs, and and LLK, set up just like the HpGO inkset I'd described before (see http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/1100-HpGO.pdf) works very well. With Museo Silver Rag or other non-OBA glossy paper, it makes the best "sepia" digital prints I've seen. I've put the Museo ICC and PS curve for this in the 1100 Zip file linked to the PDF for the HpGO inkset.

At some point I probably need to convert my 7800 to a "dual quad" with Eboni-4 and this MIS sepia quad setup. But, time is a bit limited, and the 1100 was a lot easier to set up. The 3 channels of MIS warm carbon in the 7800 looked OK with the old photos and all their noise, but with high quality files, the limits of only 3 carbon inks shows. There is a reason the B&W "Quad Tone" printers were something of a breakthrough. Four inks works much better than three when it comes to smoothness. I personally favor the dual-LK quads like the HpGO setup. This makes for easy use of industry standard inks and gives the excellent midtone coverage for inkjet papers (not un-coated). (I wonder if Epson will ever go to a full quad carbon core for its color printers. With a good gray substitution algorithm that could, in theory, allow really good RGB mode B&W printing.)
