Glossy carbon inkset approach - 6K Plus LC & LM

2012-05-01 by Paul

Since my effort to make good B&W dye-base glossy display prints "hit the wall" due to the color constancy/metamerism issues, I've switched my efforts back to a more standard carbon-based approach. Basically, I find simply using off the shelf MIS glossy carbons with LM and LC is the most flexible and economical. I'm putting my notes for this effort at http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/4000-6K-Plus.pdf

I'm using Epson LM and LC for the best possible lightfastness, but MIS LM and LC would be the more economical alternative. I'll probably switch to diluting Epson M and C with generic base when I run out of my 7800 LM and LC supplies.

One aspect of this effort to note is that the MIS glossy carbon in the Epson 4000 I'm using for this prints an image on Arches watercolor paper with the same image tone that I get when I use Eboni-6 in a 1400 to print on Arches. This similarity is only true for un-coated papers.

At any rate, this "6K+" approach is giving me my 100% carbon on cotton as well as the full range of carbon + color pigment printing on all papers, and no agitation of carts is needed as it is with Eboni-6 in wide format printers. Very convenient.
