Cleavis, a couple of points. First, I always print a nozzle check before any series of prints. Saves paper! Second, a step wedge should be the first thing you print when you encounter a problem. I have taken to incorporating a step-wedge in my progress prints, especially when printing with a new paper, so that I can tell if tonal problems are in the image or the process.
