The loss of grain structure is a loss of one of the qualities of B&W films. One of the beauties, as it were, is the silver. Dye clouds sounds exotic (I am not making fun). David said enough that I agree with without beating that horse. BUT, that was not the OP. TMax "with standard development," still left too many questions. WHAT standard developer? There were many; all with different effects on contrast, shadow detail, etc. Seth
