Re: [Digital BW] Epson 4880 Nozzles Still CLogged

Lew,
Just got in from working outside with the horses..
Anyway, the 4xxx series printers do not have pressurized carts.. So they can
be a bit temperamental getting back on track.. At this time of year the
humidity is down etc so they plug up easier.. So if your doing a nozzle
check and this results in doing a few regular cleaning and then on your next
nozzle check it seems to be going backwards ...well what's going on is the
ink reservoirs aren't full in the head.. The best thing to do when you see
that is stop.. and be patient.. I put a moistened paper towel (using simple
green) under the head to keep the inks from drying out.. It's kind of a PIA
process with this series printer but it works.. Power cleaning will usually
get you there also but in my personal experience at the cost of a few
hundred bucks in ink and a waste cart. So I do the patience method.. It has
never taken me more then 2 days (yup worst case) to get it going but it's
never failed not once. I'm in a really humidity impaired area so at times
it's a zoo keeping the Epson's going.. One thing that has been mentioned
here previously and I'll do it again is to put a silver ware tray that is
maybe 2 1/2 wide x 2 high x 15 long..( your favorite kitchen store) .fit it
with a sponge and soak that with water and put that in your printer when
it's not in use. It honestly makes a difference.. no kidding.. Power
cleanings are actually more effective on the 7xxx/9xxx series as they have
pressurized carts .. for the little guys (4xxx) diligence and patience seem
to be the best..
