Well I don't know about that. I just received a 1430 to replace my 1400 and my generic non-OEM 1400 carts with the generic non-OEM chips work just fine. (That's me.) Apparently, after the 1430 was released, Epson made some kind of a change in the interface and the third party chips had to be modified. Upgrade chips are not being offered. A new set of six cartridge is $30, so this is not a big deal, just kind of a hassle. I'll use the 1430 for color printing, both Epson and MIS inks, and dedicate the 1400 to B&W printing using the old MIS cartridges, which I have loaded for C-6, UT14 and LK2LK. As for mixing Epson and MIS cartridges in the 1430, I don't know if this is really an issue. I have certainly mixed them in the 1400. I did it just last week when I ran out of Epson black and threw in the MIS black to finish a project I was working on. Not a whimper from the 1400, it just kept on going.
