Digital BW, The Print

Danny Culbertson passed away today, as near as I can tell from facebook posts. Dan was an early experimenter with the first quad tone inks available when few could figure out how to print with them. All of my early knowledge and craft accumulation is due to his work, generous sharing, intelligence and relentless curiosity. I'm quite certain many were watching his posts and his presence is felt not only in the nature of the products we use, but the non OEM culture represented here and elsewhere.
Since he worked for NASA I liked to say I was perfecting my craft with the help of a rocket scientist. We shared a lot of work back and forth including sending prints between us. Mastering dots of ink on paper feels pretty silly in the face of larger life and death issues, but the humor, intelligence, relentless pursuit of perfection, and generosity he expressed in these efforts help define a wonderful man. I just wanted to note his passing here.
