Hi again

Actually I made some tests with cRed River Polar Matte, Hahnemühle Photo Rag, Epson Cold Press and Epson Ultra Premium Presentation Paper.

What I've found : Epson Ultra Presentation Paper gives a really mushy dMax. Blacks tend to block easily. Better dMax with Red River but the OBA stuff is boosting the thing I think.

In between the Cold Press (Hot Press should be the same) and Photo Rag, it looks like there are even. Very good dMax for matte papers but the Hahnemühle is much more expensive.

Although the Cold Press is not recommended for the 1430, a little push at loading and everything is fine.

I've hit a point where I can stay with the Epson Cold Press; my prints look great and I don't want to test everything tha's on the market. If I ever read something about a paper that gets dMax a smooth transition, sure I'll give it a try but… being in Canada, some papers are a bit hard to get.

Good luck

Thanks for the information.

I don't see any current rebates that can be used in the USA, but the 1430 is readily available from online sellers for US$299.95 including shipping. I'm thinking of doing what you did and never put color ink in the printer - I suppose I could sell the color cartridges it comes with on eBay :)

What papers have you been happy with? I've been please with some results on Moab Entrada Rag and also with Red River Aurora Fine Art White. I've had considerably less success with Epson matte papers.

Hi Got a new 1430 directly from Epson, using a rebate offered by the manufacturer, for 269$. I'm in Canada. As for Eb6, I started the new printer with a kit sold by InkSupply (this printer never printed a colour picture, I still have the original inks un packed). Bought both QTrip and QTR Print Tool (I'm on a Mac platform, and it is much easier to work with), printing is great, I'm having fun and the results are great. My two bits, check your choice of paper; cheap papers will make bad prints. Good luck
