The 1400 is my B&W printer, the 1430 is for color. I don’t see any difference between them in terms of microbanding – both will exhibit it from time to time. I used to think that doing a head alignment helped to resolve the problem, but I’m not so convinced anymore. I do think that turning off ‘high-speed printing’ does help. Sometimes I will get microbanding in my test prints (quarter page with high-speed on) but the final prints are fine. Also on the 1430, I have problems with the printer thinking the cartridges (MIS later generation) are empty when they are not. The solution is to hit the 'drop' button, which will park the heads, remove the offending cartridge and rotate around once on twice on the long axis, then replace it. The printer will do a head cleaning and pick up right were it left off without any damage to the print. Frequently, however, once this happens to one cartridge, it seems like it will happen to one or two more before settling back into normal operation. This has never happened with the 1400, which uses the older MIS cartridges.
