Hi Folks,
After many attempts I've finally accepted the fact that my 2 year old R2000 printer is clogged and nothing I have done has made a bit of difference to the clogs in the Cyan and Red heads. I've looked into replacing the head but the cost of that is $300 - $500 which is a bit too much to swallow right now.
The Yellow, Magenta, Matte Black, Orange, GO and Photo Black heads are still working so the question to the group is: what B&W ink set would work in this printer? I have a 1400 with the B&W dye inks and use QTR so driving the printer shouldn't be an issue.
I'd like to use a pigment type ink for longevity and if I need to sick with matte papers then I will but is there any way to get both matte and glossy?
Thanks,
Richard Cooke

Eboni-6 would work in your printer.
For a glossy + matte carbon setup, the one that I used most recently is written up at http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/4000-6K-Plus.pdf
(I just sent another member an off list email relating to the same subject. I (we -- MIS and I) hear the demand for a glossy Eboni very clearly. We're working on knocking the warmth of glossy carbon down to Eboni. It's close.)
For now, however, one can use the MIS K4 and UT7 inks outlined in the above PDF to make a glossy and matte compatible carbon inkset. The MIS glossy carbons are probably just as strong as Eboni.
I do not recommend the LC + LM color toning I used, unless you are very comfortable with profiling QTR. A single light blue toner that is premixed is a lot easier to live with. That was the basis of the 3880 setup I recently published. See http://www.paulroark.com/BW-Info/3880-Eboni-Variable-Tone.pdf
At page 3 you'll see the formula for the premixed light blue toner. One change that needs to be made is to use MIS amber base to dilute the Canon pigs. Do not use my generic C6b base for glossy paper. It was made for matte paper only. The MIS amber base is the best I've found and is compatible with the MIS K4 & UT7 glossy compatible carbons.
I'm not sure when I'll actually get around to making a full inkset again that uses this type of setup. If my current efforts to find a glossy carbon that is as neutral as Eboni, then a K3 universal carbon inkset will appear rather quickly.
