I'll take mine off also. It's held on by hex screws that go down into the printer. Are the nuts at the other end held in place, or am I likely to hear then falling into the printer guts when I unscrew them? (I assume the 9800 and 9600 are fairly similarly constructed.)
And, yes, Mark, I know that is a risk. Since they were not all at 5 and the printer looked to be in good shape, I just went for it. I'd always rather buy from a trusted source, but such are not always available. At least it didn't have some crappy third party inks in it! :-)

It is part of a two sided paper printing accessory. I had one on my 9600 when I bought it from a print shop. They came out in the early 2000s and I just took the one on mine off.
