I'm trying to get a 4880 up with Carbon 6 VT. The other day, I mixed up the Canon toner, but I used the old lighter version by mistake. I mixed the inks with a magnetic stirrer for about 10 minutes, and I used MIS's version C6c, as that9;s what I had on hand. In the process of working everything out, I wasn't getting very much blue. I figured out my strength mistake, and so I mixed up a new batch. When I took the old toner cartridge out, I noticed that all of the pigment had separated from the base and settled on the bottom of the cartridge, the latter is a brand new Inkjetmall cartridge. The ink was in the cartridge for at most 3 days. Any ideas?

I'm not sure what would cause that. I've been using the toner mix for several years with very consistent results. I use c6b base version (home mixed), but I doubt the minor difference between the two would cause any difference is settlement rates. Some time ago I did a centrifuge test of one of the thermal pigments (I forget if it was HP or Canon) in the base, and it settled less in the generic base than it it's native base. I assume the reason was that the generic base is more viscous due to it being made for Epson printers as opposed to the thermal head printers.
I hope the MIS mixed base uses the correct formula. I think they post the formula on their web page (but that does not guarantee the employee did it right)
I'll probably do a centrifuge test of the current toner & base just to be sure. I'll post what I find.
Over the years you've had more problems than anyone else I know of with these inks. I've wondered if your water is a source of the problems, but if this base was shipped from MIS, that would exclude that potential cause.
