But that's not what it does! A lot of people seem to be confusing colour resolution with picture resolution. It's a characteristic of human vision that our colour vision is lower resolution than our black and white resolution. This is why you can still get natural-looking results by drastically pruning the colour information present in a picture. The Foveon chip adds better colour and reduces moire, but it doesn't increase the base resolution of the picture. As for Canon or Nikon paying Sigma, why should they do that when it's Foveon that owns the technology?
