RE: [Digital BW] ready to take the plunge...

2002-03-18 by Jim Panzer

I am very sorry but I also meant to ask something else. Is there any place
that sells something like this as a package deal, or is it always separate
parts fro different places? And if so would anyone have any recommendations
on who to buy from? Thank again.

Jim

Hey people, well I have been reading this list for a while and I've
gotten a lot of great info from all of you, thanks.

I have received a bonus through work and was going start the transition
in to digital printing. I was wondering if I might run some thoughts on
equipment past you and get some feedback before I actually make my purchase.
I do mostly black and white work and have a few (on and off) years in the
darkroom, (but nothing professional).

So it seems like Epson is the printer of choice here, I was going to
start with the 1280. I don't usually print much bigger then 8 by 10 but I
think it would be nice to have the option. Then I would probably go with
the Niagara continuous flow system, and the ink supply VM archival inks
because I would like to get the richest blacks I can. I would probably
start printing on Epson Archival Matte paper too. I think that's about all
my budget will allow at the moment but I do plan on purchasing the Nikon
coolscan 4000 someday....maybe next bonus. I work with someone who has a
canon 2700dpi film scanner and I will be using that for now.

Well, sorry for the lengthy letter, I just wanted to make sure I am
heading in the right direction before I spend my bucks. Any feedback would
be greatly appreciated, on or off the list. Thanks again people, and take
care!

Jim Panzer
