Hi Jesse, and welcome! If you cannot afford the drum scanner, I would recommend finding someone (preferably local) who has made the plunge, is scanning their own work, and who will scan small batches for you on the side. Establish that you have a compatible work-flow, and that they are meticulous about dynamic range, and get 16 bit scans. A $5000 scanner purchase will also purchase 100 scans at $50 each, and you don't have to learn anything! I have an older HP flatbed scanner and HP deskjet printer. I would therefore need a new scanner, printer, and software. Since I am picky about detail, the thought of spending thousands for a scanner doesn't appeal to me right now. I've heard and read good things about the Epson 2450, however, I haven't seen physical results. I live in Chicago, but travel frequently. Next week I'll be in San Francisco and the week after LA. I'd love to see results if I can connect with any of you listmembers in my travels. Thanks for posting too...even if you aren't digital yet. The cost to entry is pretty small if you have a scanner or digicam or computer....Epson printers are not too expensive and the options of Piezography or MIS/Roark is pretty easy too.
