I am highlighting the curves channel without clicking on the eyeball so the
mask is not shown.  That way, when I paint "white" only the effect of the
curve shows where I paint.

This moves the raw source file on disk only. The archive index is not changed automatically, so you still need to run a manual refresh afterward.
