Try the History Brush which can be used for almost any
adjustment and applied to only parts of and image.
Hisory Brush in MULTIPLY mode darkens without medding
as burn tool does; Screen mode lightens again
selectively if you want to; make blurred copy/snapshot
and use History Brush to blur background or
distracting elements of image; make snapshot with
enhanced saturation/colors and use History Brush to
paint in selectively a percentage of the enhanced
version; etc, etc, etc,,,
