This list has much potential. I'm shocked at the amount of volume so far. I will say, in addition, that abiding by some small details can REALLY help the quality of the list. These are merely suggestions: a) If you complete the Yahoo Profile, by following Antonis' instructions that were posted yesterday, your Full Name will show up on the posts, rather than the truncated email address. This is useful to identify people more quickly. Sometimes, someone's email address will have no relation to the first few characters of their email address. b) At the bottom of your post, please sign your full name. There are many Bills, and Pauls, and Mikes, and Marks out there; with so many posts flying around, it's easy to get people confused. Since we're not discussing personal indiscretions, or interns, or jailtime, there's no real reason to be anonymous. c) I also find it useful to see someone's personal URL posted at the bottom of the post, along with their full name. It gives so much more perspective and depth into someone's question or remarks, when you can then go and view their website and their images. Obviously, not everyone will have this, but if you do, why not post it. An additional option would be to post your Country also, because that might affect how someone might reply to you, especially if you're looking for paper sources, distribution, companies, etc. d) I have no idea how to address the whole "thread name" thing. But I think I have missed some good stuff because I've NOT clicked and read something, because the Header Name didn't give an indication that it was something I'd be interested in. But I've been surprised sometimes, when I've clicked anyway, and then found good stuff, but also that it was unrelated to the Thread Name. I don't have a solution for all this. I know some people like to sort them and keep the thread name the same, but then if the content changes, it seems to invalidate this approach. e) If all you're posting is a simple "Thank you" to a person, it might be better to post it offlist. Just use the pulldown menu on the website, and reply only to the individual, rather than to the whole group. Again, nothing wrong with a sincere thank you, but it's a lot of bandwidth flying around when it could be done more efficiently by sending it directly to the one person that you're thanking. These are just some suggestions on how to improve the quality of this list. -Mark Tucker Nashville TN USA http://marktucker.com
