Re: [Digital BW] Eclipse Paper

2001-08-22 by Steadman Uhlich

Todd,

The HWRS photo rag came from me. I got a few sheets by contacting Hahnemuhle Germany back in June. I would not go that route now (it takes time), as the paper will hit the streets very soon (any day now) and you will be able to order it directly from a paper supplier here in the US. (check recent posts, I suggested several sources).

The Eclipse Satine 300gsm is a very nice paper and has a very nice surface, tone, and weight. It is very smooth too. But I am using it with my new PiezoColor setup on a 1200 with CIS. The prints I did on the 1160 with PiezoBW did not give the best results. Color prints are fine...I ordered another box recently and will order more...I like it that much.

Remember that there at least three Eclipse weights (190?, 300, and 350) and two surface finishes (satine and velvet). One good thing about it for testing purposes is that it is double sided (coated) and you can "get two prints per sheet" so your cost is half.

I cannot try the Eclipse with MIS inks because all three of my printers are filled now with Piezo inks. Jerry has some Eclipse sheets so he can test the MISVM inkset on it.

Regards,
Steadman

Alright Olsen, where'd you get the Photo Rag?

  Todd

PS, What inks where used on the Eclipse paper. From what Martin and I were
hearing I'm getting the impression it works better with MIS inks than Piezo
  - that true Steadman or did you use Piezo?
