I would like to know if someone could explain the difference of the BW prints made with Epson 1160 4-color and Epson 1290 six-color printers. I have tried MIS VM-inks at my 1290 and like the smooth print almost without any visible dots. I am planning to buy the MIS FS (or FS-N) inks for my Epson 1160. Will the print of 1160 be just as smooth if correct calibrated, and without visible dots, or would it be better to use the 1290 with a six-color FS(N) inkset too? Bjorn >> Based on my experience with owning an 1160 and a 1270/1280 and examining output from both machines, my suggestion is to go with the 1290. Here's why: 1. Paper feed mechanism is superior to the 1160. 2. Dot size is much smaller and thus, you can get dotless prints even when using the black ink only (at 2880). 3. If it breaks, you can return/buy a new one more easily. 4. You can probably use 720dpi(depending on paper) and thus, cut print times in 1/2 or 1/3. 5. Cost with CIS is probably about the same(or within $150). 6. Banding is less common with the 1280/1290. Hope that helps and all the best! -Andrew Darlow Photography, Digital Print Consulting and Custom Editions Andrew Darlow Images International, NYC www.andydarlow.com Author: Inkjet Tip of the Month Club (newsletter) To subscribe, send e-mail to: Inkjettips-subscribe@yahoogroups.com
