CRT sharpness is something you pay a premium for, and often have to return monitors more than once to get; all to have them get soft over time anyways. Contrast is a controllable function... if you want it contrasty its available, if you don't then OptiCAL will let you define any standard you want for contrast. I have worked with a wide range of LCDs including multiple models from Apple, LaCie, Mitsubishi/NEC, Sony, ViewSonic, Formac, a couple rebrands from Gateway and Dell, and even the Wacom LCD screen/tablet.
