dickbo - I've been happily using a Pentax 645 for many years now. It's the older one, which isn't autofocus. Its advantages include: It's a single lens reflex, so you see what the lens will see; it has a broad range of relatively compact, very affordable lenses compared to those for cameras which require leaf-shutter lenses; built-in meter, motor, etc. Disadvantages include the fact that it uses inserts instead of backs (no changing film in mid-roll, very expensive Polaroid back with fiber optics, if you need one).
