RE: [Digital BW] Flattening prints from a roll

2002-05-03 by Paul Roark

EAM is now called "Enhanced Matte." Atlex.com is my source for most paper,
but so far I don't see the 24" rolls there. At
http://www.provantage.com/scripts/go.dll/-s/fp_68657 they have it listed,
but it is backordered. It apparently can be ordered from Epson (at about
50% more than street price, of course).

I have been using a 24" wide roll of EAM that Epson gave me some time ago.
(The pro graphics head didn't realize that I was going to use it in a 3000
with 3rd party inks when he made the offer.) I now slice off 17" strips to
fit into the 3000. The fact that I am feeding it in cross-wise relative to
the "bias" has not caused problems. I do flatten the paper somewhat first.

Where can us 'civilians' find EAM in rolls to fit the 3000?

The Epson site only lists widths for the 7000/9000/10000 series printers
... :-(

    Mitch,

I use roll EAM with the 3000. I've fed it in with no flattening at all.
At
least when the curl is in the same direction as the roller, it works.
Lately I've been feeding the paper in "side ways" -- that is, I just
slice
off 17 inches of paper. (I've been told this is not recommended, but it
works for me.) When I do this, I've flattened the paper by spraying the
back with a little water to dampen it and then holding the paper flat
while
it dries. If you have a dry-mount press. Try sandwiching the paper
between
some dampened blotter papers and pressing it -- the steam iron approach.

At any rate, the roll paper and the 3000 make a very workable
combination.

Currently printing with Piezography on an Epson 1160, I am considering
getting an Epson 3000 to be able to make 16x24 inch prints. As this size
has
to be printed from a roll, I wonder whether one encounters any
difficulties
in flatttening prints made made from a roll.
