I recently was a witness to a discussion where a person who was being sermonized for playing pirated music. The person argued that the practise of copying music had now been legitimized by the fact that it was recorded on a disc on which a tax had been levied for that very purpose. I was happy not to be personally involved in the discussion, for I could not think of a good response to this line of thinking. On the other hand, I must admit that I felt some sympathy for the guy because of the fact that, while I have never copied music on a CD, I use at least half a dozen blank CDs every day to archive data, and I am stuck with paying the "music tax".
