The film recorders, as I understand them, display the file on small high precision monitor which is then photographed. Different film backs can be used to accommodate a wide range of formats. However they all have the same resolution as the internal display. On the Polaroid 8000 series (~$12,000) the resolution of the image is approximately 8000 lines by 6000 lines which is probably not sufficient for "fine art" applications at anything other than rather small print sizes.
