I don't know about the Camedia, but the Canon G2 you are better off to shoot the image in color and process in software. The Canon allows you to convert the raw format into 16 bit tiff - thus getting all 10 bits of the A/D dymanic range. There are many manual adjustments available in the color mode that are not available in black and white mode. Check out the forums over at dpreview.com.
