For the 1200, I don't know why, but for the 1270/1280/1290 there's a tremendous advantage (assuming poster means "Epson cart" for his term "ordinary"): you get built-in poppet valves. This means that when you remove the carts for any reason, they seal instantly and problems like air pockets are minimised upon re-installation. I'd sure like to have a set...MIS sells a flushing manifold and claims you can get all the ink out of the sponge, but I imagine it is a lot of work and may not fully suceed.(?) All other carts, be they from any CIS unit, prefilled, or virgin empties, do not have these valves- only Epson carts.
