Chris, It sounds like your head is probably getting jammed on the wiper that is designed to clean the print-heads. This is a relatively common problem (for me anyway!). You need to get at the print-head any-which-way you can and move it back into it's recess... watch out for inky fingers. ...Then, hope it's a one-off and park and lock the print head, then turn on the printer. If it happens again, you know your print-head-wiper is blown and it's service time for the little beauty!
