Digital BW, The Print

Can anyone tell me if CIS are only compatible with specific
types of inks? Specifically I want to know if I can use any typical
third party CIS with bulk Cone inks or will the Cone inks only
work with the Cone CIS? (sub-question: Can one go from a CIS
system using dye inks to using pigment quadtones? After a full 
flushing of course.)

Also on the MIS site I do not see that they sell bulk inks for CIS,
seems only inks for refilling cartridges.  Can MIS inks, 
specifically FS inks, be used in a CIS?

Lastly, having no experience with CIS: Can a printer that
currently runs a CIS have the system removed and go back to
using just typical cartridges?

If anyone can enlighten me here I would sure appreciate it.
