Typically, the 8 bit scans apply the tonal curves in the scanner, and 16 bit scans are raw scans, where no setpoints and tonal curves are applied in the scanner. But, as I said, no matter what your scanner does, it DOES scan using all the bits the A/D has when it makes the scan. Regards, Austin
