Digital BW, The Print

If Nikon or Canon would put a simple rangefinder on the 5000 or G2 for 
manual focusing they would have very useful cameras. The concept that 
you can manual focus off a LCD screen lies at the root of the problem in 
both (if not all "prosumer" digital cameras out there). I got the G2 and 
am pretty satisified. You can use manual focusing, but it cumbersome. 
The auto focusing doesn't work all that well - except in good light 
conditions. But I expect that's pretty ture with all of them since 
excpet for the SLR's they all use contrast for AF.
