PiezoTone-VM/FS-K Fade test

2002-06-14 by Paul Roark

I have completed a 100 hr. fade test in my fluorescent light fader that
might be of interest to list members. The inks used were the black ink
(only) of the new PiezoTone inkset and the black ink of the MIS VM and FS
inksets. The paper used for the test was Epson Archival Matte. The
PiezoTone test strip was supplied by Martin. I printed the MIS-VM/FS test
strip with the 870 printer.

A scan of the test strips has been placed in the Files section of this
forum.  Go to
http://groups.yahoo.com/group/DigitalBlackandWhiteThePrint/files/

Then follow the link to > Ink Sets, reviews and techniques, and see file
"PzoTone-VM-FS-K-100 hr fade test.jpg."

The bottom line is that the PiezoTone black ink warmed and faded much more
than the MIS VM/FS black ink.

The X-Rite spectrophotometer readings of the 100% and 50% patches of the
test strips are as follows:

PiezoTone 100% patch, Control strip:
	C=1.73, M=1.76, Y=1.74, Visual density = 1.74

PiezoTone 100% patch, 100 Hr. test strip:
	C=1.70, M=1.73, Y=1.75, Visual density = 1.71

MIS VM/FS 100% patch, Control strip:
	C=1.67, M=1.68, Y=1.71, Visual density = 1.67

MIS VM/FS 100% patch, 100 Hr. test strip:
	C=1.66, M=1.68, Y=1.70, Visual density = 1.67
______________

PiezoTone black ink, 50% patch, Control strip:
	C=0.41, M=0.41, Y=0.40, Visual density = 0.41

PiezoTone black ink, 50% patch, 100 Hr. test strip:
	C=0.33, M=0.37, Y=0.38, Visual density = 0.35

MIS VM/FS black ink, 50% patch, Control strip:
	C=0.47, M=0.47, Y=0.47, Visual density = 0.47

MIS VM/FS black ink, 50% patch, 100 Hr. test strip:
	C=0.46, M=0.46, Y=0.47, Visual density = 0.46
______________

How these black inks perform on other papers and in different environments
may, of course, vary.

I have not tested the full inksets together. This is just the black inks in
this test.
