Polaroid 120 Fingers of Death 16bitScans

2002-06-14 by Mike Bragg

Hi there-

I just got a polaroid 120 scanner and was appreciate some feedback from
other owners on the list concerning a few problems I've been having.
I'm using version 1.33 of the firmware hooked up to powerbook G4 via
firewire:

1- For the first week or so my 16 bit b&w scans in polacolor produced
smooth histograms however now it seems that the same exact (correctly
exposed) negative scans, using the b&w negative/adobe rgb profile at
4000 dpi scanned at 16 bits in polacolor are displaying jagged and
death finger histograms and subsequently print with micobanding.

2. I tried scanning in silverfast, which I previously used with a nikon
4000 but when i scan in 16 bits all my scans come up ghost white. Also
it looks like you cant do any corrections when scanning in 16 bits -
With the Nikon I was able to correct in Silverfast and still scan at 16
bit grayscale.

3. When the scanner is powered off it ticks - It sounds almost like a
clock. When I unplug the scanner the ticking stops.

I did try technical support but there answer was to just scan in 8 bit
grayscale. Gee thanks. If anybody with the scanner that has had the same
problems or not (maybe something is wrong with my scanner) has any
suggestions I would appreciate it

thanks
Mike Bragg
