Bernd,

With the Piezo driver and the PiezoTone inks I got a very good wedge using
EAM that was a match for earlier ones with the original Piezo inks. On Photo
Rag the wedge had some minor non-linearity in the ramp that were different
than what I had seen using the same driver with MIS-FS. This was mild and I
have gotten good prints with workflows that had worse ramps.

Since the PiezoTones are offered for use with the Piezo driver I assume they
are trying to density match the new inks to the old and if ImagePrint 4
works with one ink set it will work with the other. The only problem is that
the chemistry of the old new inks are apparently different since ConeTech
cautions against mixing them. This will most likely lead to slightly
different responses on some papers requiring changes to some profiles.
However, if you want to give the PiezoTones a try I think you will be able
to get good prints.

Regarding clogging. I think that we can say that the PiezoTones are an
improvement over the original Piezo inks based on use so far. I don't think
we will know how they compare to MIS inks for several months. I had zero
clogs with MIS-VM for several months and as time has gone on I am
experiencing light (clears up with 1 to 4 nozzle cleaning cycles) clogging
occasionally and at random.

The Piezotones were completely clog free initially but after a few weeks I
have experienced some episodes of light clogging.

But I get some clogging with Epson inks in my 1270 too, so I have to say the
MIS-VM and the PiezoTones seem to fall within the normal range that you
would expect with an inkjet printer. My only experience with MIS-FS is in
cartridges and I did experience mild clogging problems much more frequently
than with MIS-VM but I had attributed that to the use of hand loaded
cartridges compared to the CIS I used for VM. So I think that it is very
uncertain as to whether the PiezoTone is likely to be more clog free than
MIS for you. Only time will tell but you need to make a near term decision.

I am very sorry to hear about your problems with the 7500 and also
surprised. I think this is the first report of a major clog failure with the
MIS-FS. If anyone else has had similar experiences with MIS-FS please let us
know.

Martin:

If this is true it should be true for the IP4 RIP too.
Did anybody print the new Piezotones with the IP4 RIP (which
supports PiezoBW and MIS FS inks so far) ??

To tell the background of my question:
I had serious cloggig problems with MIS FS inks on my 7500
printer. Cloggs from hell, which I couldn\ufffdt get rid of. whatever
tricky tricks I attempted. Finally I got the print heads changed .
Now - after receiving the bill for the exchange - I was afraid to
re-install the MIS FS inks and I ordered the new Piezotones (they
will never clog, eh?).
Shall I give them a triy with the IP4 RIP - or shall I wait until the
colorbyte guys have finished their Piezotone upgrading (they
seem to be very busy with it - at least they did not answer my
e-mails during the last days).

Bernd
