John, Stephen, All, Well Yahoo definitely is wandering around in the ozone again with the groups. As Stephen pointed out it seems to take several days for changes to go into effect so multiple attempts to make changes may actually delay things but I have no way of knowing for sure. If you are trying to stop e-mail then the fastest and most effective cure is to use the message tools in you e-mail software (Tools>Message Rules>Blocked Senders, in Outlook Express) to block any in coming messages from the Group and then turn it off when you get back. For those of you who have stopped getting e-mail I have no solution other than Richard's earlier suggestion to try an alternate e-mail address if you have one. Might even try a free Yahoo address and have messages forwarded to your regular address. But again be patient as it may take a few days for the changes to take place. Or create a whole new Yahoo account, you can have multiples, and try working through that.
