Just had a novel cleaning experience with my 1160. There is a bank of
light gray rollers set in a white nylon matrix running parallel to,
and just below, the steel rod on which the cartridges ride
(nomorecarts CIS, MIS FM inks). A couple of these rollers have been
picking up ink and marking the print. Of course I assumed something in
the paper drive was inking up and passing it on to the rollers.
However, I discovered that the SIDE of the cartridge vehicle was wet
with ink and passing it to some few of the rollers as it travelled
back and forth. Sorry I can't be more specific; the smear was on the
inboard side, which can't be seen. At any rate, a Windex-dampened
strip of the blue shop towels already mentioned by a member as a
perfect cleaning material may be easily slipped up alongside the
vehicle and gently moved back and forth to eliminate the trouble.
In my experience with the 1160, this blue paper toweling (dampened
with Windex, of course) may be moved across the heads with no trace of
lint or particles (rather than passing the heads laboriously over the
dampened towel laid in the recess below the heads). Seems to do a much
more thorough job of cleaning. And now I'll take a couple of swipes up
along the inboard side of the cartridge vehicle as well.
