It's hard to calculate $$ advantage...there are so many externals like the fact that a CFS uses less ink since a vacuum filled cart doesn't completely empty- you throw away ink. Also, as it gets lower, the pressure head is less with a cart and in theroy cause more clogs (I haven't seen this in practice tho). OTOH, having a CFS sit around forever with ink in it isn't good. I lean toward throwing the CFS away everyso often and replacing, so that the screen in the carts doesn't get clogged, and the tubing doesn't sludge up. Also with my 1280, I can have problems with vacuum filled carts because I have to seat in a new chip every time I change out, and this sometimes causes errors. With a CFS this wouldn't happen. Then again, With a CFS I am commited to one ink. See it's a mixed bag. $$ is only one thing to look at. I am going to CFS soon, after vacation in a month. CFS has some nice features like the cart clamp mod to hold carts down and replacability of individual parts, right down to being able to order the glue for the tubing. Being cheaper, I can throw it away sooner. I have seven pages of instructions on how to painlessly fill Vaccum fill on virgin carts in the files section in this group. I don't remember the folder it's in. Jim H.
