I don't have similar problems on any of my printers...but I do underhead
cleaning regularly.  Regardless, using gloss/semi-gloss papers won't "trash"
your printer, you just may have to clean it a bit more.  I have more problem
with this type of clogging if I use thick dusty matte papers (like Orwell)
and don't dust before I print.  I think the key is to clean even when you
don't think you need to (preventative) so the crude (dust and ink) don't
build up.  One friend suggests a pipecleaner dipped in fantastik and then
threaded under the head...working it back and forth...continuing to do this
this until the pipecleaner comes out clean.
