Digital BW, The Print

I hope this hasn´t been discussed too often, but my search
didn´t get
results:

When I print with Photoshop either with FS or VM inks and apply the
curves (Woolf or Roark) at 100%, my prints get way to dark. I can
already see it on the screen. For the VM I am actually printing with
right now, I have to adjust the curves - i.e. "neutral cool" at 35 -
40% to get a more or less correct print. 

This however reduces the impact the curves have on the tone. 

Does it have to be like this, or am I making a basic mistake? - I read
the "Roark workflow" and followed the procedure as far as I can see...
