Jim: My 1200 had similar symptoms and a list participant advised: metal bar that print head slides on gets gunked. Clean bar using a little alcohol on a paper towel. When dry, use a couple drops sewing machine oil on a small foam brush to wipe the bar lightly before turning on printer. Might need to oil periodically. This procedure got my machine running smoothly again. However, it left tiny striations on prints, and, per advice of another list member, I replaced the 1200. But that's another story. Still use the 1200 with Epson color cartridges for odds and ends. Hope this helps. Good thoughts, Carol [Non-text portions of this message have been removed]
