Digital BW, The Print

Hello All:

I am printing with MIS Vari Tone inks and Pauls workflow on a 1270 printer.
I have two questions

Is their a way to tell which side of this paper is the front side?  I don't
see much difference when printing on either side.

I also get posterizing when using some of Pauls curves.  The light and dark
areas get blown out really bad.  When I print not using the curves It seems
ok.  The overhaul image is a lot lighter with out the curves.
