I can > already see it on the screen. What you see on the screen while you are working on the image in grayscale should match the final print on paper. However, what you see on the screen at the intermediate step after applying curves to the RGB is always way darker and strange colors. You shouldn't pay any attention at what it looks like at this stage. Its most helpful and informative to start off trying the 21 step wedge and seeing that the screen matches the print -- at least close. Its easiest to see here that your workflow is correct.
