Sure- this stuff is painful, so I help when I have the knowledge, or think I have the knowledge<g>. All this week I have been soaking the 1160 print > head and nothing was happening. If you actually mean you detached the print head from the carriage as is a posted procedure on the MIS site (and I disagree with doing), you might want to have an Epson repair center (ie one with the special alignment software they won't sell me) do the two or three alignments to insure smooth printing. Some people get away without it, some seem to have problems. If you mean putting a paper towel under printhead- that helps if the symptom is blobbing on the paper. Not really clogged nozzles as much. Today I was able to take off the CIS and put > in Epson inks. On the second cleaning, I had good nozzle checks. Good you're lucky- the clogging happened mainly in the CIS and not the head then. Toss the CIS- and the ink if you can bear the $$ loss. I've > printed some color images and they look fine with no banding. You may find the Piezo driver is more demanding- but check it out. Sounds promising so far- but again, if you removed the printhead you'll need to watch for problems. I haven't tried the inks but I assume you can do your own filling if you want into MIS virgin carts . Just going by $$ numbers on inkjetmall and MIS site, if you fill your own, the cart set will cost about $53 as opposed to $80 filled by Cone. You have to buy the $260 set of bottles up front though. I have a detailed set of instructions on how to fill your own carts using vacuum fill MIS method somewhere buried in files section of this group, in pdf format now. Filling your own isn't for everyone.<g> I need to print 13 10x10 prints so I > assume that I will probably print 25 to 35 prints to get the 13. I'm > wondering if I need to order 2 sets. I don't know. Sounds doable with one but it depends on lots of things- maybe how many cleaning cycles is a biggie. > > Oh, one more thing. There was a black gummy circle around the black > position. It rides up after awhile and it is best to gently push the carts back down every so often. Using regular carts this is not as much a problem but when switching out carts some ink can still pool around the nipple. Cleaning as you did is fine.
