RE: [Digital BW] Mixing MIS-FS & FSN inks...

Andy,

To test blends, count drops into a bottle cap and use a q-tip to swab onto
the paper you're going to use. You can get very close to the mix your after
by looking at these swab tests.

I find that with the vm-sepia, the neutral curve version -- mostly FS-N with
just a hair of the sepia toner -- is quite stable. It may be that a very
small addition of a sepia toner that is 2 parts yellow pigment (the new
tougher one) to 1 part magenta pigment would do the trick without altering
the cyan density enough to matter. If you use a 1Y:1M mix, you'd be even
closer to the "selenium" tone that has a bit of magenta in it.

(The draft FS-Sepia cyan formula I published that is the correct density is
20% FS-K, 26% MIS archival magenta, and 54% MIS new yellow pigment.)

Then you could just mix the other positions from the cyan. (Magenta
position = 16% of cyan; Yellow position = 11% of cyan or 43% of magenta
position, remainder clear base.)

  Andy,

The FS-Standard warming characteristics significantly effected the blends
I
tried. I have no hard data but the 50/50 blend seemed to warm about as
much
as 100% FS-S. The 50/50 blend is pretty close to the Warm Neutral
PiezoTone
(which is still pretty warm to my eye) but if you want to have this as an
end point, I would suggest a 75/25 or 60/40 blend to offset the FS-S
  warming.

I recommend you get several virgin cartridges and hand load different
blends
to see what you like and how the warming goes. Not a lot has been done in
this area so the information is minimal. Also consider different blend
ratios for the different ink positions. I suspect that this may give you a
  more interesting ink set.

Just the three grays since the blacks are the same.

Good printing and let us know how the ink blending goes. We need the info.
