For these, however, there does not seem to be a good way to preview effects. So, it's a bit hit and miss. With the positive film setting the range that the scanner sees in the original preview is enough to set the histogram end points easily. I do find that the gamma the machine sets for negative film is more to my liking that what it does for positive film.
